Markand Waingankar, a well-known cricket commentator, has suggested that ranking system should be introduced in cricket. The system works on the principle of awarding points for performance in all the aspects of the game. The system based on statistics and cumulative points will not only motivate the players, they would also get to know the benchmark for getting selected for a state team, he argues. It will get rid of bias and nepotism which are rampant in Indian cricket selection process, Mr.Waingankar says. I find his arguments highly valid. Moreover, the system has already been introduced in Australia. Now, what do you think of this suggestion? Should ranking system be introduced in Indian cricket?

I think the ranking system as suggested by Waingankar and others would be a very motivative thing for the players. I think when something like this is introduced, players confidence level will increase which will result in putting better performance. I think it would have some psychological effect on players and I think it will particularly encourage the young players in the side a lot rather than seniors. Yes, I think it will be really interesting and an encouraging thing for the players if the ranking system is introduced.
