Do you think the movie "Gheisha" was as good as the book?

I read the book. It was marvelous. I saw the movie. It was good. Usually that doesn't happen. I find that people really mess with the story sometimes but I thought they did pretty well this time. Any one else feel this way?

No. The Memoirs of a Geisha. If you haven't read it you should. The movie was very good as well, but not as good as the book.

Arthur Golden is the author of Memoirs of a Geisha. It is really good story. You should be able to find it at the library or get it at Amazon.com. Hope you enjoy it as I did. Let me know, okay?

I loved the book, have read it over many times. I was leery about seeing the movie, because i usually wind up disapointed in movies when i have already read the book, but Memoirs was done very very well. My biggest complaint though, is that they didn't spend hardly any time in the movie on the schooling that the girls have. I understand it is a movie and they have to move the plot along and keep the story going, but this was always my favorite part of the book. They had to learn many many rituals, the proper way of entertaining. It was so diciplined....and VERY interesting to read about. Just wish they could have gone into it a little more with the movie.

Ya, it seems like there is never a happy medium from book to movie. Rarely anyway.

I read the book first, a while after the movie came out. I loved it. Then I watched the movie and I was just going "ugh" through the whole thing. I thought it was poorly done, and most of the actresses were obviously not japanese.

The book was fabulous. The movie was good in some ways but not near like the book. I thought the story was great and it struck me too because it was written by a man.

I loved the book! It was amazing and I felt like I couldn't put it down! But I liked the new movie too. They did a very good job about keeping everything basically the same. I was very surprised at that fact. I still liked the book better but I usually do! :)

my hisband recently gave me the book. I have seen parts of the movie which only made me confused. I would love to hear more from those who have read and to those who have seen the movie and hear what their opinion are about this book .

Yep, I read the book first after that saw the mowie! This is an awesome story, the beginning very tragic but the end is happy! I like Zhang Zi Yi and Ken Watanabe acting in this mowie :)
