What did you want to be when you grow up?

People have a funny way of rising up to meet the challenge of their responsibilities when they're given a chance and the right motivation. They already know what needs done, and that it's their job to make sure it happens. Parenthood, for one, can make people grow up pretty quickly. The thing is, you don't have to wait for a young 'un to appear before you have responsibilities like this. We all have them. You have goals that need to happen, a difference you need to make. At home, at the office, in the community, with your friends--wherever you are, whatever your role, there's something that needs to be done. Who's going to drive it forward if not you? Who else is going to take it upon themselves to see it through? Can you rely on yourself to be there when it counts the most? Yes you can--by doing what you know is right.

Hello msedge! When I was a kid, I dreamed to become a teacher. Now I am a teacher. When I was in highschool, I dreamed to marry an American white man, now I married one. Today, there's nothing I could ask for but to be with my husband in Florida, and to help my family. I know God is with me, He never left me even during the darkest time of my life.

When i was kid, i always wanted to be a medical doctor... actually, i took a pre-med course wayback in college but after a year or two i've realized that it wasn't really for me so i decided to shift course.. After Biology, i took up International Studies Major in Tourism..

I wanted to be a scientist and a mother of 3 or 4. I wasn't able to fullfill one of my dreams, being a scientist, but I did have 4 children. One is lost to me one of the twins my first birth. He was stolen from the hospital as were other new born babies and sold to others that were adopting children. My other 3 children are the loves of my life. I had 3 boys and and one girl. I lost one of the boys, or I should say the nurse and a doctor and a lawyer did the awful deed of releaving many of us of our babies. It came out years later and the doctor and lawyer and one of the nurses went to jail. They disposed of their records so we no not where the babies went or to whom. They wouldn't speak of it either. SO one day my daughter and I have been searching the net and other things, we will find him. This is my main dream, want, and need for part of my life now. I have raised all of the children and now have 10 grandchildren with another on the way. The babies are my love and joy and consume much of my time.

Hi Msedge, I think the only person in the worls I can totally rely on is myself so I have always held some sort of responsibilty even before I left school as my mum was poorly so I used to come home and make the family meals etc. I never really wanted a lot and really didn't know what I wanted to do when I grew up other than to have children and to live near the sea and for all to be happy and content and I have achieved this as I have three wonderful children and for the last nine years have lived by the sea. Bliss. Huggles. Ellie :D

I wanted to be an architect. I was rather good at the drafting courses I took and loved drawing up houseplans. I still sketch them from time to time as a hobby. Sadly, I didn't pursue my chance at my career. I married right out of high school and settled into the role of working wife and mom. I supported my husband as he went up and up in his working status - only to be left behind after 20 years of marriage when I became disabled. It seems there are some things I would change if I could - and one of them would have been to go on to college and get my degree.
