I have recently recieved a bill from AGL that was high. After speaking with them I was advised that they had cancelled my previous bill and reissued it (there was quiet a difference in amounts). I have checked all bills and receipts for this year and I don't agree with the statement of account history for the year. I have heard of a group that can check your bills for you, I don't know what they are called. can anyone help?

Yes, AGL are notorious for that... I used to work in their Gas New Connections department and handled a lot of billing/accounts etc too... I don't know of the group you're talking about, but if AGL are still doing the same things they used to, it is a pretty sure-fire bet that they have sent you out a bill with only an estimated meter read. Sometimes either the billing date fell before the meter reader could get out to a property, or they were just slack so estimated it by looking at usage from the same period the previous year... generally, there should be something on your bill to indicate that it was an estimated read, rather than an actual one... unfortunately, if they have done an actual read lately and brought your account up to date, there may be very little that anyone can do about it... but my advice would definitely be to look at your bills and see if it says anything about an estimated meter read, or words to that effect... you CAN call and demand someone come out and do an actual meter read whenever you get those sorts of bills, as sometimes they will estimate either too high or too low, and you're left paying an exorbitant bill...

The bill was estimated but AGL can't explain why it was when we seen the guy read it! We paid the original bill now 3 months later they have cancelled that bill and given a new one. They also sent a statement of all bills and payments for this year, the amounts don't match the amounts on the bills that we received and dates don't match either. It's just too hard to try and work it out with them on the phone because "they are right". I appreciate your help.

Where do you live? Do you have a Better business bureau or something similar?
