I like it very much. I am from India and sometime I can't understand actor's accent in Hollywood Movies but I love them. Because of the accent I had to wait for the movies to come in hindi version and dubbed movies are far less in quality with the original. Thus I enjoy it because I understand every bit of what they say!! Yahoo

i like sub titles on videos very much too... i am hearing impaired, and i am not that good in lipreading english speaking people. some of them dont even move their lips very well that i am having a hard time understanding what they are saying. there are actors and actresses i can lip read well, but there are also many of them that i dont. sub titles makes me understand what is being said in the movie and how the plot is going on. subtitles are so very helpful for me...

You can lip read, that is very good. I am not so good at it. Subtitles rock and I must say that HBO must have got some TRPs after using them in their movies which they show. Now a days, I have seen one of two Hindi movies on this channel too. Do you get this channel in your country?

i you can talk inenglish, write in english, then u can certaintly understand the actors accent also. i dont beleive it,sure it some time but with subtitles on the major problem is that u cannot concentrate on the scene.. but it suits u, i wud suggest that you should watch them without subtitles.. i am absolutely sure u would be able to understand after sometime.

Its the problem with their accent dude. Yes, I can write, speak and understand it but sometimes people use slang while speaking. That's also a problem and sometime they speak too fast to catch!!

If I'm watching a Hollywood film or any film that is in English I don't prefer subtitles because it messes up the whole film. Also here in my country there is no need to have subtitles for Hollywood films because we can full understand English.

Yup, in our country we don't like subtitles in our language. Same with you! I use it for the first time and then for the second time onwards, I like to understand it without subtitles! Thanks for responding.

Being from the USA, I rarely have to do that, but their are times even my husband and I aren't sure what they said and we will turn the subtitles on to read what it was because we could not catch it.

It has been my problem since I started watching movies. I even can't catch movies in my mother tongue!

Subtitles can be good for young children learning to read. If the young children read along with the script of the movie, it could improve their reading ablility. My youngest one alway put the subtitles on. I asked her why. She said to help me read better and that I can read along with what they are saying.

Hi Chokkie! If we have a DVD then for once I will put on subtitles and after ward, I will try and grasp whatever they are saying and it has really helped because reecently I watched a movie named "Mirrors" without subtitles and I glad that I have understood every single which has been spoken in this movie!

I think you are right even though we can understand their language but sometimes with there accent and slang lines it might be difficult for us to understand them. So it is better to watch English movies with sub-titles. I am watching it in both formats as available, but movies with sub-titles are quickly finished on the other hand when watching movies without sub-titles can take a little extra time for forwarding and rewinding.

movies without sub-titles can take a little extra time for forwarding and rewinding. That is interesting! I never noticed it. Good point

Subtitles are a very good way of following a movie. Many times especially in action movies, certain dialogs are mumbled or shouted faintly that I can't even hear them let alone understand them. Subtitles help there. Also in comedies where catching each bit of dialog is often necessary to get the joke.
