I have a 92 Chevy S10, V6, with 97k mi. The engine is strong and idles smoothly. It pings in gears 2-5, with a definite loss of power in 5th gear. It is hard to believe it is a gas issue with the size of the engine. It this a major problem or a maintenance issue? Thank you, Harry

Take a look at the sticker on the edge of the drivers door there is usually a sticker there with info. It may tell you what octane gas you need. You may also have gotten some water in your gasoline at your last fill up. Try adding some additive to your gas to get rid of any water. If you haven't had a tune up in a while. you may have some spark plugs foweled out.

have you tried running 89 or 91 instead or 87? Thats where I would start first, some new plugs and wires could help also
