I might be going there for a short holiday. Can anyone please tell me the places to visit? Where to shop & which time of the year is best for their summer sale?

I am just from a trip to Taiwan. If you are interested in taking some cookies, so to speak, to bring back as gifts. The one in Hua Lian, called Ma Shu is good, which is said to be handmade and not seen to be sold in Tai Bei. Another lesson I learned is that you have to ask the natives in Tai Bei to tell you which shop sells really good Lao Gong Bing and Lao Po Bing, which stand respectively for salty and sweet pies. The ones tourist guide sends you to are not as good as what I tasted from a friend.

People there are very, very friendly. The tour guide with us is also professional. They are of the mind that tourism is helping boost their economy. The facilities available from their good days will be otherwise used only at the weekend. They are looking forward to more visitors, wherever from.

I am going to taiwan next week. I have done some research on that. You can go to their "Xilin" night market to try their local food. Besides that you can go "wu fen pu" for shopping. There is a lot of cheap stuff there.

Like the other writer, so I have not been to Taiwan other than the airport on my way to Hong Kong but if Taiwan is anything like Hong Kong anytime is the best time to shop. Its how you shop (anywhere you should try an Arab market, wow!)! Shop around and do not forget to haggle! Never pay the asking price! You will do great!!!
