Could the Detroit Lions be the worst team of all time?

With only the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers left to play this season, if they fail to win a game could this Lions team be the worst of all time? This team has been a total disappointment to their fans, and have gotten so bad that they may even lose they're yearly Thanksgiving Day game. Personally, I don't know any Lions fans, and I am sure there are alot of them that wouldn't want too admit it right now, but for those of them out there it sure has been a rough season. The worst team of all time is probably the expansion Tampa Bay Bucs, who also went winless, and will likely remain the worst even if the Lions lose out, but this team should be nowhere near 0-14! Looking at this team in the pre-season you would have thought they at least could have made things interesting this year in a division that is one of the worst in football. Instead, they have become the joke of the league!Granted, QB Jon Kitna got hurt early on, but even that should not have made them as pathetic as they have turned out. The offensive line was supposed to be better, and tackle Jeff Backus is supposed to be one of the best offensive lineman in the league. Unfortunately they have been inconsistent which has led to a shaky running game as well as a passing game that has had it's ups and downs. Rudi Johnson and Kevin Smith have not been the combo that you have seen from other teams around the league such as the Giants, Panthers, and Falcons among others, and much of that is due to the blocking up front. WR Calvin Johnson has had an excellent season, but Roy Williams was traded to Dallas and never really got on track this year anyway, while Shaun McDonald and Mike Furrey battled injuries and were no where near as productive as they could have been. TE Michael Gaines also has not emerged as a threat, but credit must be given to kicker Jason Hanson at least, who remains one of the best in the game. Daunte Culpepper did his best to try and save the offense, but you can't win many games anyway if your defense cannot stop people.DE's DeWayne White and Jared Devries both had problems staying healthy this season, and recently DT Cory Redding has been lost for the season as well. How do you let Pro Bowl DT Shaun Rogers sign with the Browns though and expect your defense to be better? If not for LB Ernie Sims and the occasional good play of LB Paris Lenon, they may have never stopped anyone at all this season! With safety Dwight Smith also missing alot of time this year and the sporadic play of veteran CB Brian Kelly and the rest of the secondary, this defense has become even a bigger joke than the offense, and may have trouble even stopping alot of College football teams! So, are they, or will they be the worst team of all time?In my opinion, I still think the Tampa Bay Bucs expansion squad will nudge them out, but this could be the most disappointing team of all time! In a division that is not great and with a schedule that didn't look real tough at the beginning of the season, 0-14 is an embarrassment to this franchise and something needs to be done so they don't carry this disappointment with them into 2009!

I think, even if they win a game, they have to be in that worst team category. This team goes out of its way to lose.
