When i have a lot on my mind, I find it harder to get to sleep and stay asleep. I often wake up through the night, and the more that is going on in my life, the harder it is to get back to sleep. AAAARRRGGGGHHHHHHhh!!!!!!!

I know how you feel. It often happens to me. It drives me crazy when it happens. It takes a long time to fall asleep, and then when I do fall asleep, I don't get a really good night sleep.

I usually toss a turn for hours trying to get back to sleep, and then finally do and then a few minutes later the alarm clock goes off. I hate that!!!!!

Hi Djbrat, I've been through this before. The more I think, the harder it is to sleep. So just relax - don't even think about not being able to sleep. I would do something else, like read a book, watch TV - unless I get tired, and will drift off to sleep!

yeah, I know what you mean. When i have sleepness night, or really sleepness early mornings, the ONLY thing I can do is just get up. I get up at 2am, read or work on the computer and by afternoon, I'm so exhausted i'm crankier than a Bear. I hate that, and so does my family. I feel so sorry for them when I get that way..

I was taking sleeping pills awhile back but I stopped taking them because I was sleeping better and they are addictive.

Yea... When I have thoughts going on in my mind before sleep, I couldn't sleep, I will keep thinking and thinking... it won't end until I really can relax but I usually can't relax if that stuff really bothers me. Sometimes I just give up and wake up, go surf the internet.

I am sorry for you. I had similar problems from time to time. People say it is an accompanying phenomenum for aging ladies. These days I feel much better. What I did is to keep happy as much as possible, feel calm and less concerned about anything. Anxiety is my chief issue, whatever seems wrong will immediately lead to my sleeplessness. Then do not have any knap in the afternoon, and no coffee or tea either, especially after dinner. These are taken only in the morning. Do some physical labor or excercises during the day to make you reasonably tired for a good sleep. And the dinner should be light and healthy. Lastly, when you are in bed, close your eyes, put your hands lightly on your stomache and resort to some religious chanting silently. That is very useful, at least for me. Good luck!

yeah, that would work with no caffiene later in the day. You have NOOOOO idea how much I am addicted to Coke. I have decreased a lot but it still has a hold on me. It's a bad habit I need to shake. But even when I do ditch the coke, i still can't sleep. I'm hopeless.

I've had problems sleeping for as long as I can remember. Thinking, then tossing and turning all night. I can not remember the last time that I woke up or got out of bed feeling 'refreshed' and rested. Recently my family has started seeing a new general doc and he said that he thinks I have bipolar disorder type two. Stuff like that kind of runs in the family on my mom's side, however I do not feel that is the correct diagnosis. In less than two weeks, he has advised that I try two different meds. Seroquel (made me feel horrible the next day), which led him to give me Zyprexa. I took the Zyprexa last night, however I did not feel as though I got restful sleep...I still tossed and turned a lot. I think I'm going to stop with the medications and continue with the herbs and vitamins that I've been taking. During the day I take St. John's Wort twice, B6 twice and a multivitamin. At or before bed I take a few Valerian Root capsules as well as stretch and some times read. I'm definitely going to be trying to be more active during the day and not let any of life's stresses intrude on my evenings (from six pm to bed time). I'll try to give an update in a week.
