do you enjoy the voyage itself or only the destination?

hi all! most of us are travellers by heart. we love to appreciate the beauty of our destination, and we also love the journey itself. there is even a saying that a true traveller is one who enjoys not just the destination, but the journey itself. in my case, i savour every moment of any trip. be it a plane ride, a ship ride, a bus ride or even riding in my own car, i love enjoying the sights and sounds along the way. when on a plane, i like looking at the plane itself as it zooms past clouds and i like looking at the islands, the sea and the clouds. when on a ship, i like observing everything on the ship, the sea, the dolphins, the islands and the sky. when i'm on a bus, i like observing the people around me, and enjoying the views of the beautiful countryside or the bustling metropolis. and while driving (although i have to be more attentive), i appreciate how beautiful the roads can be, and if i get stuck in traffic, take the chance to look around and see the beauty of surroundings. how about you guys? when you travel, do you appreciate the sights and sounds of the journey itself? or do you simply fall asleep, watch your PTV or tap away at your laptop until you arrive at your destination? cheerio! =)

If I travel by train the journey is always enjoyable because by day I look out of the window and by night I sleep in a comfortable compartment. Sometimes I enjoy bus trips in the day if I can see out of the window. Last week I went on a bus that had very dirty windows and I felt travel sick not being able to see out of the window. If I am on a ferry and I feel sea sick then I don't enjoy the journey. Nowadays I don't get ear pain when I fly because I wear ear planes. I enjoy it when I see superb views from the plane. So far in my life I have seen the Pyramids, the reef and islands of the Maldives and Sydney Harbor from plane windows. It is the destination that I look forward to. I am going to Cape Town in January. I have been that airline before so I know the entertainment is great but I hope I will get some sleep because there and back are night flights. The drive along the Garden Route should be very picturesque.

I usually enjoy the journey as well the destination. Going by bus or travelling in a foreign country is often an adventure in itself. I always enjoy the view from the train or the bus. I like to look at the houses, the fields, the cars, the people, the animals, signs in a foreign language etc. I don't like travelling during the night, though. Some years ago I was in Poland, and I was going from one town to another (by bus) It was really late and dark, and I was so nervous that I wouldn't get off the bus at the right place. The busdriver didn't speak English, and I wasn't sure if he had understood where I was going. I tried to ask some of the other passengers for help, but they didn't speak English, either. If it had been during the day, I could have looked at the signs, but it was dark and I felt pretty lost. Luckily I managed to get off the bus in the right town, but I didn't enjoy that busride very much
