Ok, I'm throwing this out there because I really do need some ideas before I decide to hang myself out to dry. lol Just kidding folks but here's my problem, the master bathroom has nothing on the walls because there's so much wall that I'd need a rather large picture and that can get expensive not to mention, the water vapor could ruin the picture. So I've thought about painting a picture on the wall using paint that one uses to paint ceramics. Something like a mural or is it a mural? lol I'm going to add another picture as responses come so you can get a good idea of what I'm talking about so maybe you all can give me some ideas of what to paint. Flowers and a gazebo? Horses in a pasture? Fairies and sunshine? Geeze, anything that's nice and inviting. Something that I'd want to sit in my whirlpool tub and just gaze and lose my way for a little bit. Here's a picture of my tub and the huge wall. A window and toilet are to the right and a sink and counter are to the left and then there's the walk in shower. Can any of you come up with some ideas? I'm kind of lost here. Oh and, don't mind the date on the picture. I didn't set it right.... yet.

I would be careful with a painting. The idea is a great one as a full sized wall mural could be a very interesting and fun project. I am thinking of a jungle theme sort of, lots of foliage and maybe some parrots, tigers, zebras and monkeys. Perhaps a glorious sunset. Another option would be a huge mirror with super strong anchors. Mirrors have a magical way of really opening up a room. If you have a window in your master bathroom, this will also reflect light adding more brightness. A bright bathroom is always cheerful. Plants that like humidity hanging, such as spider plants and such. Personally I like plain bathroom walls. Maybe a picture here and there but the bigger wall I prefer bare. Makes cleaning easier. Back to paining; The mural is a great idea. However, what type of medium are you going to paint in? Oils? I am unsure of how the paint for ceramics would work as in order to have it cure it gets cooked at a high heat re: glaze. Other than that I am unsure of what type of paint that is.. Research? Ask crafters who have used that medium as to what they think. Acrylics are water soluble and wouldn't recommend in a bathroom. The oils will take a long time to dry and I think in a humid area this will not help the oil to completely cure. So another option for a paining would be something put behind matting and glass in a frame. This way a water color, as well as acrylics would work. Again I would go with foliage but in a water color or even acrylics, I would add flowers, maybe a butterfly or two or dragon flies. Enjoy that soaker.

I will have to check into what kind of paints to use because several of you have said the same thing about ceramic paint. Jungle theme? That's a LOT of work!! lol I don't think I'll go down that route but I do love the flowers, butterflies and a dragon fly idea!! Thanks!!

I would like a meadow with horses, or even a with unicorns and a castle. I know some people like to have sea side type pictures, and a beach scene is also nice. Don't use the paint like for ceramics because those need heat to set and change the colors. Enamel is probably the best paint you can use, I would suggest an oil based enamel if you can stand the smell, if not then an latex enamel will work.

There is no more reason to be afraid of horses than it is for the lady across the street to be afraid of cats and dogs. Horses pretty much have no desire to hurt a person than any other pet, it might happen, and happen more easily because they are so much larger, but I've been as badly hurt by cats as any horse.

Oh, sitting in the whirlpool bathtub surrounded by forest with dappled sunlight and a big waterfall would be my idea of heaven!

Unicorn mural - This isn't mine but I've been contemplating over painting that on my wall or not myself. I love unicorns. Not quite a water-based mural, but it is kinda 'woodsy' and 'outdoorsy'... maybe a few trees around it?
Ah, that looks like the master bathroom we had at our old house except we had a huge window on the right-side wall. What I did in that bathroom was to build 3 small shelves out of wood, about 8" x 10" with wooden braces that you attach to the shelf itself, then hang them all on the wall. I put plants on those shelves. One was Swedish Ivy, one was a philodendron and the other was a spider plant. They all hung down out of the pot and really looked nice coming down the wall. But, if you have your heart set on a mural, I think one that covered both walls would really look nice and take the "edge" off the angle where they meet.

Hey Marti, me and plants don't mix. lol That's one thing I didn't get from my mother, the green thumb. I've got a black thumb!! LOL Some how and I don't know how I did it but I was able to keep her plants alive when she was so sick and for so long. By the grace of God, I was able to keep them all alive!! lol So that said, the mural is the way to go. Besides, it'll be fun! I don't know how good it'll turn out but it'll be fun trying anyways.

I always think bathroom things should have a water theme whenever possible. Perhaps you could do an underwater theme with flowing plants, some bubbles and lovely fish, turtles, clams etc. It really depends on your colour scheme which way you go and also the theme throughout your house, if there is one.

my suggestion is to go to the library and get out some books on art and decorating. i guess you should paint what you love. as for me, i am totally into the country look, so it would be something in that vein...but hit the library or a book store, that should help.

I agree, I'm in the country look too. It's such a peaceful place without cars and the noise of a city. Once I get an idea of what I want then I'll find some pictures to help me draw it on the wall. Thanks!!

I would definitely get an artist to paint a huge mural on the wall! A really good artist can make the pictures look so life like, that it would amaze you! Ask to see some pictures of their past jobs, and it might just give you a better idea of what you want. good luck!

A mural would be nice, but with all that wall space you could still do a mural on one side and maybe hang some nice rod iron shelves for bath things. I have a shelf next to my tub that I keep my towels, shampoos, soap, and any books or magazines that I am reading currently. DCMerkle
