Can you still be a film purist?

Starting with this craft at a time when film was still mainly used as the medium for capturing images, i am now surprised at how relatively cheaper digital technology has driven down the costs involved with this hobby. Consequently, it has been more challenging to source out film and related products. In these days when practically everything has been replaced by a digital counterpart, do you think its still possible to be a film purist?

I think that it is still possible. I love digital because of the convenience and never having to worry about running out of film. I also love that you can download the images right onto your computer. While saying this, I still use film. I recently found my dad's camera and have been using it to take some wonderful pictures. I'm not sure what type of camera he has, but I know that it is fairly expensive and has many lenses that enable you to get the best shot possible. I find that the quality of the pictures seem to be better. I love digital and film and will continue to use both.

I think it's still possible..just not quite as cost effective as digital. I also learned on film...an old Fujica ST605n. LOL I still love that little beastie..I take it out every once in a while when I just feel like going out for a day of shooting. I also have a Rebel Ti, which I use more regularly for film work. But for my everyday business, I use my dslr. I'm able to keep my overhead lower, and in turn offer my clients lower prices. Generally speaking, I only use film for my own enjoyment..such as when I decide to go out and shoot some landscapes, etc. But, back to your original question, you can still be a film purist. Any professional printer that I've ever looked into (Mpix, CPQ, WHCC, etc) also offer film services. And I think as long as they continue to do so, of if you have your own darkroom equipment, you can continue to shoot using only film as long as you wish! Happy shooting!
