Shattering the Glass Ceiling?

American Midterm election results have yielded a newly Democratic majority in House of Congress led by Nancy Pelosi, representative from California. This will be the first time that a woman will serve as Speaker of the House. Is this a signal of change in conservative American views? Has the proverbial glass ceiling in American politics been shattered? Or has the ceiling only been raised a bit?
