Can a smile really make you look better ?

I am always hearing persons say "you look better when you smile " but to what extent is this true and what exactly are they talking about .It could be a physical "looking better" as a smile couldn’t rearrange a physically unattractive face or is it just a case of looking better and not necessarily classically pretty ?.Maybe its a metaphorical situation which really means you look easier on the eyes or you look approachable....I don’t know .
Please analyze this statement for me and tell me what it means ?

did you know a happy person actually can look younger than a grouchy person!
My mum has been complaining i always have a bitter gourd face and that's it's such a pity cause i look good when i smile. she says whenever i pull a long face i look very arrogant (and more than one person has told me this) but when i smile, i look so much more fun and approachable.
but honestly, i can't go round smiling at everybody i see that crosses my path can i. they might think i'm some psycho.

yup.
so be sure to smile more, for the more you smile, the younger you look. (or what some say)
but there is also the worrying factor of wrinkle lines eh. you know those creases that appear when you smile. yea.

I guess it can and you better hope there isn't anything in your teeth, now that is very unattractive.

It depends on the state of your teeth,but on the whole yes,it makes you look cheerful and more approachable,if you walk around miserable you depress others around you.Smiling does make you show your feelings and I love it when people smile it shows that they are happy.xx

Yes, I must say. Tell you a true story, when I in my middle school, the first day, the teacher told me and the other girl on duty, I am a shy girl and for the first time I met that girl, so I didn't know how to communicaite with her, at that time she smiled to me, at that moment I suddent found smile to the stranger was such a magical thing, from that time on, I learnt to smile when I saw someone who I meet the first time.

Smile has a lots of meaning. Smile can make a difference. A smile can bring joy to others.
A sincere smile well bring the positive message that we are willing to lend a hand and willing to be friends wd anybody.
Some people says that you look good when you are smiling. What about when you are not smiling, so it means that you dont look good as when you smiles? 
Always remember to be happy because you never know who's falling in love with your smile.
