My son ran away

Well he's back. Interesting enough, I actually told him to leave. You see, I have a problem with a 14 year old who basically is going through turbo puberty and of course I am an idiot. It all started when he forgot to call me and let me know that he and the team were going to another location to practice. Of course no one at the school knew if this as I waited on him for over an hour. He has a cell phone so that we can keep in contact with one another. Of course he did not answer his cell phone. When we got home he had no explaination and seemed to not care. I lost it. I told him if he felt he was that grown, then he should just leave!!! We now keep in mind that the community I live in is the same community his grandparents, uncle, aunt and a host of other family members live in. So my thoughts were of course, he will end up there and after we've both cooled of a bit, I will pick him up. Long story short, he ended up at his grandparents after sleeping on the baseball field. We've both grown from that experience. I learned that as a parent, you must remain cool calm and collected at all times. He learned that it is a very good idea not to challenge me!!
