My only daughter was born on New Years Day, does that count?? There were times when money was pretty tight following Christmas, and as I would shop and plan for her birthday it would be tempting to skimp. I have a sister who was born Jan. 2 and she has told me that many many times she wouldn't get gifts for her birthday as they had all been marked as combinded for Christmas and birthday. So right from the start my husband and I decided to work at making her birthday extra special. When I would question myself about spending a lot on a birthday gift I would ask myself if she had been born in June would I buy that item for her. That was my guideline. We also had a sort of open house all day of New Year's day, and no, the tv stayed off so people didn't turn her birthday into a day of watching football on tv. We were also able to get her some terrific presents at marked down prices after Christmas!!!!!

I have to confess that it was my sister whose birthday is Jan 2 who clued me into the fact that often a child with a birthday that close to Christmas would often only recieve Christmas gifts that were also birthday gifts. I am so glad she told me how bad she felt as a child to only recieve one set of gifts. She and I both know that our parents did that because money was so tight, not because they didn't love her. So my husband and I really tried to not let that happen. And wouldn't you know it----------- along came a grandson whose birthday is Jan 3!!!

Hi friends, Yes I know the feeling. My son (who will be 19) was born on December 29th. While I was happy to have a baby (who wouldn't be), the nurses were all hooten' and hollerin' for New Year's eve and I was feeling pretty left out and alone. I had a c-section so I couldn't even get out of bed. But to this day, it is one of the three best presents of my life. God Bless Cheryl

My sister in law was born on Christmas Eve and my uncle was born on Christmas Day. I am so glad that my kids weren't born around Christmas time. I think it would take a little away from their special birthday if we were celebrating Christmas too.
