Best New Year's Eve

Do you eat out or at home on New Year's Eve?When growing up, New Year's Eve was spent with my parents - watching former DJ Richard Clark, then eating Mom's pigs-in-a-blanket for a midnight snack. When dating (in my 20's to my 40's), a boyfriend once took me to a fancy hotel ballroom for NYE celebration. He became bored and threw a rubber band across the room, which hit the leg of a well-dressed lady, who screamed; he thought it hilarious. (It didn't amuse me.) Another time, an older gent wanted to eat out - but the only restaurant open on NYE was Chinese, which messed up my stomach. Nowadays, each year I, my hubby and my Dad visit my best friend's house. We have supper, watch a movie, and play board games, take pics, and chat with her other friends who stop by. So, tell me about eating in or out for New Year's Eve through the years and now.

Since my family is from China, we don't usually celebrate christmas or new year [jan.1]. I mean sometimes we doo, but it's not as big as everyone does it. Ever since my sister & I got older, we stopped celebrating christmas. Basically, we just have a little dinner get-together. For new years, we get together and watch the peach drop on tv. Since we're chinese, we celebrate Chinese new year [which is determined by the moon each year] & thats when it gets really loud at our house =)

when I was growing up we would have a big french reveillon at the house for new years eve, that is a big party with family and friends, then later I went out for a celebration but that cost way too much money. Then when my son grew up we started a tradition of going to a chinese buffet on new years eve, then there was no more available money so we didn't do it anymore.

Honestly, I think I've only been out once on a New Year's eve. And my first husband got so rip roaring drunk that we had to go home early...he wasn't a very pretty site when he was that drunk. Other than that I've spent the rest of them at home watching one program or another, munching on snacks and having a glass of champagne at midnight. My hubby now doesn't even stay awake that long anymore. LOL

I have spent New Year's Eve in many different ways. Sometimes I've been at home with some friends, sometimes I've had dinner at a restaurant and sometimes I've spent New Year's Eve in another country. Some years ago I spent the night on a ferry between Helsinki and Stockholm and that was probably the best New Year's Eve I've ever had. One year my ex-boyfriend, one of our friends and I wanted to have dinner at a restaurant. We went to a Chinese restaurant, the food was great, but the restaurant was practically empty, we had it all to ourselves and that was a bit of a strange feeling. This year I am also going to have dinner at a restaurant, I just hope that the place won't be totally empty this time.
