Will the Yankees win the world series in 2009?

As a red sox fan living in ny, I have say that I am not even mad at all the free agents that the yankees have purchased this year for christmas. The difference between Boston and NY, is that Boston is very concervative when it comes to spending money and signing free agents, especialy pitchers. The yankees are just the opposite. They go out and buy the best team that they can every year. And it has failed for several seasons. But I think they have the best starting rotation with Sabathia, Burnett and Wang coming back. And now they have Mark Teixeira. i have to tip my cap off to you guys. If anything I'll say that there is more added pressure for this team to get to the world series this year. There is no excuse. They have spent a total of $400 million dollars on three guys so far this yr. If they fail to win the world series they are going to look very stupid.

LOL...sorry! May the best team win! (but I think you're right, I don't think we'll have a problem. Although I said that about the Miami game! LOL!) I can understand your frustration! Look on the bright side...at least we know our players are with us because they want to be, not because they were bought off! All I can say is "hail to the man who put the Sox jersey in the cement of the new stadium"!!! Steinbrenner is so superstitious I'm surprised he didn't have the whole stadium torn down and rebuilt in another spot! LOL! Rhonda

Just stopped by to say great game Sunday! Man, was that wind kicking or what! LOL! I thought the first half you guys were going to kick our butts! Well, even though we got the job done, we couldn't get the Jets and Ravens to do theirs...:( There's always next year though! Have a wonderful New Year! Rhonda

Must be tough living in NY being a Red Sox fan. I used to live in NY as well, didn't see many Red Sox fans. I bet it's harder to live in Boston being a Yankee fan for sure. The Yankees have gone crazy over signing free agents this year and the best players. They have to realize that to win championships, you have to do it by being the best team. Look at the Yankees of 1996 - 2001. They didn't win all those championships because they had all the best players. It was because they played as the best team. I agree with the added pressure part, especially if we get eliminated early in the playoffs or don't make it again. But, even if that happens, they can go and get the best players again next year.

They did commit over $400 million in future salary but their payroll would most likely be the same as last years considering the amount that they slashed from expiring contracts and options that they did not pick up. For sure it would be a ton of pressure to win this time with all that talent, but then again, the Yankees have been like that since the start of the decade. I'm excited to see how they get things going this year. Barring any injury, they should be able to come out the gates strong. The only concern that I have is that two of their main pieces, Sabathia and A-Rod, are known postseason flubs. Here's to hoping that they at least play to their contract's value if they do get to the playoffs.

Another thing they have to worry about is AJ Burnetts health. He hasn't pitched a full season since he's been in the majors. He's been on and off the injured list his whole career.
