Conflicting Objectives in Buddhism

This question has been in my mind for a long time, hope you can help me people. Buddhism talks about worshiping your ancestors and paying respect to them. On the other hand, Buddhism also talks about reincarnation after death. So if our ancestors are dead, which means they are reincarnated, why do people still worship them? I mean, they are already, reincarnated, they are a different person now, most likely they do not even know about the trouble that people took to worship them. I am a Buddhist too and I too, also respect my ancestors, but this question has been pondering me.

Ben_Lim_90, the Buddhist concept of rebirth and souls are a really difficult to explain. More so because I being a Hindu, there is a possibility that my ideas could get mixed with Hindu concepts. But I am an ardent student of religions in general, so I would research and tell you about the same. I will get back to the Dhammapada and other Canonical texts I have received, to see if I can find an answer to your questions. Please bear with me for some time.
