Can any Country Afford a War?

India

I started my day in the usual manner-a cup of steaming coffee and the newspaper. I fee I am one of privileged ones who can still do that. The first thing that struck me was the unwritten question spread all over the paper-Will India and Pakistan go to War? And more important can any country in today's time(or any time, for that matter) afford a war. Its not just the financial implications that I am talking about but the loss to mankind in more ways than one- human life(which in today's world doesn't seem to have much value), families being destroyed, the earth being blown to bits..... it just goes on... My question stands- Who can afford it and whom does it benefit?

Yes!It costs high to afford a war.But what for we are spending more and more money on the budget for military. With all the air force, sea force, tanks and soldiers, are we supposed to suffer by terrorism and invasions? How long are you going to let them play smart. One heavy blow and they should not think again to spoil India's peace. That is all we need.Only this waste politicians are making things worse. It is high time we shall start war and put a full stop for everything.

i think you've get the point here, no one will benefited by war, maybe if there's somebody benefited by war, it would be the produser of military equipment.. and i do believe, war cannot fight terorrism. even more, war only made things worse because it cause harted and only caused another war. And for me, war IS the terrorism itself.

Hello! There is a song from my favorite Brazilian rock band that has these lyrics, in a sarcastic way: "There is somebody waiting for you, who will buy your youth and convince you to win. One more war without reason. There are so many children with weapons. But they explain again that the war creates jobs, rises the production. A war always advances the technology, be it saint war, hot war, morn or cold. Why export food, when weapons will generate more profit? There is somebody who is counting on you, to fight in your place, because in this war it is not he who is going to die. And when, far from home, wounded and cold, the enemy you await, he will be with other old people, creating new war games. What beautiful scenes of destruction! We won't have any more problems with the over population. Take a look at this beautiful uniform that we made for you. And always remember: God is in the side of who wins!" This song clearly states about the benefits of wars, in a sarcastic way. Wars do not bring good benefits. Yes, it really advances the technology, but is this advancement worth a thousand of lives? Wars are useless. There is no reason in doing it. The man who controls a war is nothing more than a coward. He puts thousand of soldiers to fight for something that is not worth. And the soldiers are also stupid. I wonder what would happen if all soldiers, from both sides, refused to fight. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

It is not a question of affordability, rather it is a question of sovernity! If this is affected by a country, the other country must go for war! Thanks.

I dont any country will agree for a war because they have a risk that they will too have to suffer big loss including the other country they are fighting the war against.

hi, a country can afford a war financially but the people cannot sustain a war with thousands dying and many more families ending up in grief...... one cannot digest such a feeling .... the army keeps its life at stake no matter what the situation is at their home the soldiers are always ready to die for their country...leavig their families crying i think in a war no one wins everyone becomes a loser..a dumb loser.... bye... have a peaceful new year..

with the global recession right now, I honestly wonder if even financially a country can afford it! My father was in the army and was a part of three wars- I know what a family goes through.... I agree when you say...everybody is a loser here...
