Is the origin of base ball and cricket the same?

cricket and base ball have many things in common.. only the rules get changed...
but the shots, running and fielding are the same...
From where did these two games originated?

hehe so they have things in common....except for the rules?
I would have thought that fielding is the only thing they have in common
