Firecrackers?

How many of you have used firecrackers on December 31 to welcome the New Year? I never touch fire crackers. I look at firecracker as a dangerous thing even when it is not lighted. I always fear firecrackers up to now. I can never get used to its sound. Whenever a firecracker pops I get nervous that is why I don't go out when firecrackers start bursting in all directions. I wish people will stop using firecrackers to welcome the new year. Aside from being too dangerous, it adds to the pollution. They say that it is the joy of the celebration but I don't agree. There are other things to do to enjoy New Year. Every year there are so many accidents caused by firecrackers and yet people still do it year after year. The sad part here is that there are many children who are victims. What is your opinion regarding firecrackers? Do people need it to make New Year exciting?
