My mom used to tell us that we should not spend anything on new year's day. She has a superstious belief that you will always be spending for the rest fo the year if you start spending on the new year. You should keep your money instead. What do you think? Do you believe in this? Did you buy something on new year's day?

I think it's silly. It's just another day. I think spending is like eating healthy. It's got to do with the lifestyle that you abide by every day, not just at any particular time. It's something you should strive to do well all the time, not just on the first day of the year. If you discipline yourself, you shouldn't have to use superstition.

Yes, I agree with you. Discipline with oneself when to purchasing stuff no matter what day is really important. My husband always tell me to buy things if it is necessary, if not I should not buy it. He is a very wise spender and needs no superstitions to abide.
