We got our kitties a scratching post and also every time they would scratch on the sofa or chair we would squirt them with a water bottle so they would know that was a no no. They are a year old now and they don't scratch the couch anymore.

I used to have the same problem. Then one day when I was shopping at the local pet smart I found the solution to my problem. A very simple thing really its cardboard cut into strips and glued side by side and placed into another cardboard box with catnip on the top and under the cardboard pieces. I was amazed as soon as I placed the on the floor my cats ran to it and have not sharpened there claws on my furniture since. The name of the product is super skratcher and you can find info on it at www.worldwise.com This is a great item and cats love it cant seem to refuse it.

Actually I know a few things that will help. First make sure you have a scratch pad for her to scratch on. And show her how to scratch on it. I have the Turbo Scratcher which has a ball around in and a scratcher in the middle the best purchase ever when my cat was a kitten. And teach her by putting her paws on it and using a scratching technic or show her by you scratching on it. She should get it. If that doesn't work because if they don't have a spot to scratch on they'll scratch everywhere. But if that doesn't work get some oranges with the peels. Peel them and than take the peels and bend them and than rub them where she's scratching on the couch. And the reason why this works is because you know the awful taste that you get when you bite into an orange. That's why they would taste on there paws if they did scratch or put there paws on it. Won't taste good. Also it shouldn't stain your couch so yoru good to go. I hope that helps! Good luck!
