How does your choice of music change with the changes in your mood, if at all?

People listen to music for so many different reasons that it never ceases to amaze me how powerful music can be. I listen for several different reasons myself. Sometimes i listen to it when I have no other form of entertainment on the bus. Or sometimes I listen when I am trying to fall asleep. I listen when I'm cleaning the house and when I'm writing here on myLot =] But, a more intriguing question is how does your mood affect what you listen to? Usually my choice of music is always the same type of genre, but sometimes I listen to different artists for special moods. If I'm feeling a little frustrated or just plain energized with adrenaline, I will listen to metal or hard rock. If I'm sad or melancholy i may listen to slower songs. If I'm feeling intimate with my boyfriend I'll usually listen to some driving classic rock like Led Zeppelin or Jimi Hendrix. Any other time I'm mostly just listening to classic rock whether I'm bored or chipper. I notice when my bf is feeling frustrated he listens to different music than I do. He listens to bands like Iced Earth or Cradle of Filth. The "screaming" high pitch sort of singing. But, all other times he does not tire of Sublime which is upbeat reggae type with some ska. I guess everyone is different though when it comes to summoning the powers of music. So how does your mood affect your choice of music?

I do not know about you guys but it totally works the other way round also for me. If I listen to a particular song full of lament I tend to get somber and totally depressed. Fate of norns - amon amarth is one such song which totally get me all sad and gloomy.I guess i let music affect me too much. On the other hand humming some happy songs used to get me through a lot of time like evn my difficult exams. In fact if my papers were going well, I would automatically start humming my favorite tune to myself.:) I do not think I have ever fallen asleep while listening to any kind of music no matter how tired I have been. Maybe I havent hit the right tracks yet.:D Forget moods - I generally tend to walk/eat faster when listening to a fast paced song and vice versa.

It is a little difficult to find the right music to fall asleep to. The only music I've tried going to sleep to is Pink Floyd, especially the Dark Side of the Moon album. I used to go to sleep to that album every night lol.

Actually yes, my mood does determine my choice of music. If I'm happy I like to listen to upbeat music like, Lil Jon, Lil Scrappy, Beyonce- Single Ladies...etc...If I'm feeling down I like to listen to...Lisa Fischer, Xscape, Tyrese...etc...So music plays a great part on my mood...

Hello schwing_girl, Happy new year to you. In India we have a great tradition of Indian Classical Music(ICM). We have different music for different parts of the day, different season and different mood. So we can choose one as per our choice and be happy with it. It is no doubt that music has immense power. It can even used as therapy. Research is going on to use ICM for healing and is called Music Therapy. The following link may be helpful those who want to know more - http://www.indiasfirst.com/ and http://ayurveda-foryou.com/music/music.html Happy mylotting.
