I would definately turn it in. The right thing to do morally of course is to try to get it back to it's owner. Here if you keep something like that and get caught they call it theft of lost property and you can go to jail for it! On the other hand, they also keep track of who turned in what and if after a reasonable amount of time and effort to locate the owner fails, then the property legally becomes yours. That is a very good deal.

Well honestly, I don't have the right to keep even a cent of such amount in that bag because in the first place, it's not mine. I also believe that if you keep something that does not belong to you and you're enjoying it at other people's expense, you will be repaying it sooner or later in a hundred folds.

I have lost things or had things stolen of various values. Sometimes the thing is gone forever and other times I am able to recover it. I have also found things and kept them, and found things and returned them. By far the most satisfying result is when I lose something and it is returned to me, or when I find something and return it to it's grateful owner. So I would seriously consider keeping the money. I'd contemplate the consequences, positive and negative, of keeping it. I might take the bag home and look at it over night, maybe read the checks for fun and wonder who the people are, what they bought. Then I'd turn it over to the police, because one day I'll be going to the police looking for my bag of lost money (or whatever it is I will lose) and I'll be thrilled to learn that there still are honest people in the world. And I want to be one of those honest people. It's the right thing to do and it feels great to do the right thing.

I would have returned it also. All of that money probably was someone bill money and if I had lost that type of money I would hope someone would return it back to me. Even though one might be tempted to keep some or all of it we have to think if that was our money lost we wouldn't want someone stealing from us. I heard about this one story this lady lost I believe like 5000.00 someone turned it in and she rewarded that person with like 100.00 or so.
