I have desktops, but my gf has a laptop. She prefers laptop so she can sit in a comfy chair in the living room and have it on her lap without taking much space. I prefer the desktop as its stationary and more organised for the tasks i do. I've worked with both for so long the technical stuff is second nature and in essence they are equally easy to repair in the event of problems.

Both have their own uses. My desktop is on 24x7 and is much faster than my laptop. My laptop is quite useful while on the move, but its quite likely to spoil if kept on continuously. In case I am in a hurry, or want to use an application that requires speed with a lot of memory (RAM), requires a lot of graphics memory, then its my desktop that I use. Also, the ROM (Hard disk space) is much more on my desktop, I use it to save a lot of data that I may not always be needed on the laptop. I use portable drives to transfer memory from the laptop to the desktop.

I prefer using a desktop. After all I can fix it on my own if it runs out of order. Desktop is also cheaper than laptop.

I prefer a desktop just because I am not on the move a lot so I don't need a laptop. Plus you can get more memory, RAM etc. in a desktop than a laptop.
