My friend has a 6ft long iguana named Iggy. They are cool, but a lot of work. Iggy for instance has a special diet and must live in a temperature controlled room. I have never owned a lizard myself, preferring the more traditional dogs, and cats. Cheers!

I had a friend with an Iggy but it was a male and when he got grown-up they had to get a Mrs Iggy to keep him comany as he got nasty. They ended up in a heated shed in the garden, her Iggy just used to eat as much fruit as he colud get his claws on, he was very sweet until he got too big. My little boy has now forgotten he wanted one glad I held off til his birthday, he'd be bored of it by now. dogs and cats are still the best for me too.

My daughter would love all sorts of exotic pets too, but like you said she too would grow bored of them quickly. Lizards can be pretty boring as they tend to sit still for very long periods. Cheers!

Well, Rainbow, my brother in law believes that lizards make excellent pets. However, they DO take a lot of looking after and if anyone is thinking of owning a lizard for the first time they should definitely look up everything they can on the internet about care of a lizard. My brother in law has six, I think, I never go there as I can not stand them, and they mostly turn up because the owner can not cope with them. www://exoticpets.about.com/od/lizardsaspets/a/lizardspets/htm That is a very good link to start off with. As with any pet, try to buy from somewhere with a good reputation for the care of their animals, and report any that are rubbish to the authorities. A check up with a vet is also a good idea. So the answer to your question is that, yes, lizards can be very good pets, but they need a lot of care and must be looked after properly, and you would not get one past my front door lol.

Bless you, Bong wanted one in the summer and I said wait till your birthday, luckily he had forgotten by October bless him. I think they are cute but can stick to ornamental wooden and sand ones. I think maybe when the boys are older it may be ok but I'm not really keen on pets in cages etc. Thanks for the link, if he remembers and asks me again I'm going to have to give it more careful consideration, I might try to convince him a trotoise would be easier, at least you can putthem in a tank to keep warm for winter as if they hibernate sometimes they dont make it. I did do some research before but I'm not 100% that they are good for little kids.

I hate them. Just the thought makes me shudder. It's something to do with the heads and tongues. If you are looking for a pet, why not a tortorise? I had one when I was little and it really was the sweetest thing. It also preferred eating weeds to lettuce, and as a result I'd do weeding every day to find it food (my mom was really pleased!).

I always wanted a tortoise, but mum was scared it'd die in hybernation but you can have a bavarium(?) for winter now so it's probably not as bad. Might look into it when I have a new fence put round the garden this summer. Bong had forgotten by his birthday anyway so it's a good job I waited, lol.

i've had 5 or 6 of them. i did like them but there are a few downfalls. they don't live long. you have to feed them live crickets. when they bite it stings and they don't let go ver quickly. they are cute and the longest one that i had lived for a year. the others i had after that only lived for a few weeks to a month. that also depends on where you buy them at. places like petco etc.. that's where i got all of mine.

I do not enjoy lizards at all. My ex husband used to keep them as pets and I got so freaked out by them. They are not very attractive and too creepy crawly for me!

My friends have 3 lizards. They are pretty easy pets. They need fresh water and live crickets.

I love them!! and I feel sorry when someone hates them and kills them. they are innocent creature who doesn't harm anyone and we hate them only due to myth in our mind. It may sound strange but I love all animals, pets and birds. and it is taught by every religion.
