I prefer the look and feel of black and white photos. They seem more dramatic to me and I like the shadowing. However, I do like color photos as well, especially of nature photos, since there are so many beautiful colors in nature.

Colour of course. If B&W was so great, there would not have been so much resources given into inventing colour photgraphy. I am of the age where major films were all black and white and the colour ones were just coming out. Only cartoons were colour so you had colour cartoon and b&w feature. It is not the same. I am not saying some monochrome pictures are not excellent but I would prefer the choice. I love the colour of flowers you do not get in a monochrome.

It depends on the subject matter. Some photos look better in black and white, and some look better in color. For me, when I shoot digital I don't really think about black and white or color while shooting. But when I'm editing my photos, I look at each photo and decide if it would look best in color, black and white, sepia, selective color or some other color editing. When I'm shooting film, I don't have as much flexibility. So if there's black and white film in my camera, I carefully think about each shot before I take it. Same with color film... I take pictures I know will benefit from color film.

well if i want to make my subjects look dramatic then i use black and white. but if i want to project life, happiness, any thing positive about the subject then i use colored ones. like every body has said well it depends on the subject and what you are trying to show to your audience. after all photography is an art and let the others see what you want to show.

Much of the impact in a good B&W photo comes from the way it emphasises aspects of the picture that we miss because of the power of colour to dominate our perceptions. Like other respondents, I say it depends on the subject and the way the elements come together. But though the novelty and drama of a mono image can have great impact, I suspect few people prefer mono - despite the ease with which mono photos can be made, the vast majority of published photography is still colour.

It depends on the picture but b&w are sentimental and give a different feel than colored ones. I like to change some of my photos to b&w

I love both black/white photos and color. They each have a quality that is unique, depending on what you are taking pictures of, of course. :)

It depends on what the picture is of. I like Black & white if I am looking for a more dramaic picture. I had our family photo done in black & white this year because I was just wanting something different. It turned out very nice. Nature scenes or snapshots of family and friends I like color photos. It just seems more fun with color. Especially when you are photographing kids.

I like both. I like to travel and I usually take a lot of pictures. In that situation I prefer colour photos, and I also prefer colour photos when I take pictures of people. Sometimes I take pictures, because I want to remember a certain place where I have been or some people who I have met, and in those cases I usually prefer colour photos. One of my hobbies is to take pictures of abandoned buildings (urban exploration) and for those pictures I prefer black and white. Black and white creates the atmosphere that I want in the pictures (sadness, hopelessness etc), and I don't get the same effect if I use colour photos.

I agree with raivenx, I prefer black and white pictures. I think the contrast and the shadows and lights look way too better! B/W photos have also an aura of age and romanticism. They look classic, I think.
