Hey guys! I have here an actual situation that really happened in my country. I brought this up to you for I need your opinion about this; It happened actually a month ago. But I guess this kind of situation has no expiration or time duration; A young garbage boy in my place found a $600,000 in a sack thrown and dump from a garbage dump truck. An eighteen year old garbage boy with a little or no knowledge of the kind of money he founded consulted his auntie about it. But before it, everyone in the dump site knew already about the founded money by him. After that, his auntie gave a share to those who were there when the incident happened. Initially his auntie used a thousand dollars for some commodities they needed in the house and having a drinking spree with their neighbors. On the following day, it was on the headline of our tabloids that a certain lending businessman lost $600,000 mistakenly thought to be a garbage by one of his housemaids. The businessman seek help from the police and all authorities to retrieved the money back. On the other hand, the garbage boy upon knowing that he was wanted by the authorities got afraid and went to their relatives living on the hinterland outside the city and hide them for a several days. To make the long story short, the only money left and retrieved were just $450. The case came up as some government authorities would file a case to a young garbage boy if he would not come out and face the consequences he had done. Some said, the boy is innocent cause he did not stole and robbed the money, he was innocent because he did not knew the owner due to the fact that there was no name printed on the sack where the money got on it. On my side, if I found it, it was a "heaven sent" money why I should be guilty. It's my discretion whether I return it or not. Question guys: If you think the garbage boy was guilty, what charges would you file? Was the boy obligation to return his "Heaven sent money" to the authorities should he did not know the real owner of it? If you're an attorney,a judge or a fiscal, would you charge and file case to a young innocent boy? Let me hear your opinion about this...cheers and happy mylotting guys..

If I was this young boy I would not have let my aunt or anyone else take the money I would have waited to see if anyone would be looking for it. 600,000.00 is a lot of money and no one in their right mind would have knowingly threw that much money out it had to be a mistake. Unless there is a law against garbage workers taking things they find out of the dump I don't see how they would charge him with any criminal intent he found the money. And if he is going to be held responsible everyone who used the money to their benefit should be held responsible also.

Oh how wise young boy would he be. But in his case, let's get practical. How could he think of that way when all of his garbage-mates knew it. Can it be kept secret? Maybe on his case, on that day itself when they found the money all the people around knew it already. Would he still wait for another day waiting 'til all the people around the town would know it? How would he manage if that would happen? Another problem isn't it?

Great question....If i loose a dollar and you find it...it is yours....it is up to you to decide whether to keep it or return it. it is not wrong by law to keep it...but many who teach leadership teach that you have to live by a set of principles and they make life easier...if I live by the principle to never steal or take that which does not belong to me it makes the decision much easier...I would give it back but that is me....but I also would not think badly about the boy or charge him if I were able to...he did nothing wrong....it was his parents who did not teach him a good set of principles.

Yes you may right on that. But you think his parents has a share of fault why would he would not give it back? Suppose if the boy was not wanted for that, I mean nothing claimed that $600,000 he found, in your case where would you return it if you would do that? Do you think the authorities whom got the money you returned give the exact amount to the owner if there would somebody claim? What if there would nobody claim, where would be the money goes?
