Portuguese is a Roman language that is growing up more and more. If you aren't Brazilian nor native of another country where Portuguese is spoken but you know something in Portuguese, tell me. But be attentive because there's a great difference between European and Brazilian Portuguese. Enjoy yourself with the examples below: A simple pun with R: O rato roeu a roupa do rei de Roma. The mouse gnowed the King of Rome King clothes. A proverb: Água mole em pedra dura tanto bate até que fura. Soft water in hard stone hit until make a hole. A phrase: Por que você não chegou em casa mais cedo? Estávamos todos preocupadíssimos com você. Why didn't you arrive home earlier? We were very worried about you.

I think you wasn't lucky, but don't generalize the things. Many people go to other countries and get worse they were before going, however other people, most, by the way get better when do that. I don't agree with the "who wants all loses all" proverb, because since we're born our life is guided by risks to get everything. I'm not sorry for you, because the Bible assures that we are more than winner. So, try another thing to do or another country to go to and keep your experience in Portugal as a preciouse treasure. Don't be discouraged. God is with you.
