What's the average advance/royalty pay for a first time novelist?

If you're a talented writer of novels, fiction rather, and you're getting your first one published. What type of advance payment and royalties can you expect usually? And would the novel being something very long and epic (i.e. book 1 of 6 or whatever) make any difference?
