Obama recently stated that the past is past and we need to look into the future(I'm not reproducing the exact wordings). But is it proper for him to let the power abuses committed by the previous administration go unpunished? Consequences aside, is that a decision he has a right to make? From 20th onwards he's gonna preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United states. To protect and defend the costitution it is not only necessary that the president should abide by it but he should also hold those who violate it accountable? What is your opinion in punishing his predeccessors for abuse of power and authority?

To answer your question literally he can and he will. I think the problem is that the penalties for some of these crimes are very severe and he doesn't want to appear evil by imposing them. Do you ever wonder why former slaves never received the 40 acres and a mule that they were promised to get after the Civil war. The original plan was that all the southerners who committed treason would be beheaded and their land would go to the former slaves. Since the president didn't want to cause further animosity by having that many people beheaded. There was no land to give away. Obamas situation isn't that bad but in modern times people have gotten a lot softer.
