I've worked in technology for about 4 years now and I've been asked this question a lot. My answer has now become this: Apple computers are very intuitive if you haven't worked with a PC before. Not to mention they know how to make a stable and very attractive operating system. So for home-users I now recommend Apple systems if your needs are very simple and regular (such as needs basic programs to do word-processing, email, internet, etc.). PCs are predominantly used in business because of the following reasons: 1. Apple stayed proprietary for far-too long and thus developers had to go through a lot of hoops and hurdles to make Apple software whereas Windows software offered developers a framework to build apps quickly in, 2. Windows handled network security and information transfer better than Apple(such as the ability to create users on a network vs. on the local machine only as one example) 3. The system administration in a business network is simpler (to an extent) then on an Apple system. This I've verified with a few friends of mine that are system admins at a University that runs both Apple and Windows based systems, 4. Microsoft did a much better job at marketing and since it did not require proprietary hardware like Apple hardware vendors were able to make Windows-based PCs much cheaper then they could for Apple. While Apple has come a long way, numbers 2-4 are still true and thus Windows will still be the predominant computer on the market, at least for business.

the reason why i run a PC is because most of my applications are for PC and i've had my PC for a few years already. if i were to buy a new computer, i'd buy another PC because PCs are used in the business world (besides graphics art, but PCs can still be used). it's good to know how to work with a PC since macs are for more of a personal use
