Why a dog always chases cat?

Hi Guys You must have seen and observe that whenever a dog see a cat the dog starts chasing cat but have you ever wondered why? Some say its a killer instinct but the dogs owned by us doesn't eat cat then why they chase cat? If you think you know the answer please let me know by posting it. chow

I used to have a dog that will chase anything he has never seen in his life, like stranger, duck, chicken, and cat etc..., I will think it is because of fear and animal survival instinct.
