people usually say that clothes are mirror to our personalities. So if it is so then it gets really important for us to dress up well and look good. So i am really confused when it comes to dressing up for an interview(B-Schools). what should one wear so that he/she is quite comfortable and doesn't looses his/her self confidence. Because everyone has their own way, their own style- like many are comfortable in blazers, business suits, where as some like traditional ones . so what do you think that one should wear ??

I think it also pays to see what dress is for the job you are applying for. I applied for a job in my uniform like I was ready to go to work. You do not want to wear a business suit or a dress if you are applying for a job at the dump and will be taken on a tour.

when i am getting dressed for an interview, i just pick the clothes which are the ones which i casually wear when i go for a regular working day. this is easy to know how to do it if you have had already a working experience. i can still remember that my first job interview saw me in a whole dress which i always liked to wear. i was graduating in college then. it was an easy pick for me. now, i have come to realize that what counts most per our clothing during an interview is that we appear decent enough. then we will be able to handle the interview honestly. just give honest answers and talk about whatever may it be in your life which is along the line of the interview. you will surely get that job. i have never experienced a turn down in an interview for as long as the one who does the interview is really the person to do the hiring.

I don't think clothes are the mirror of personality.Yes well dress is important for an interview to get a job.Well dressed man or woman looks smart. It attracts the employer at the first sight. But if the concerned person fails to answer properly he/she will not get the job.Personality depands on many things.Education, manner, experience,to deal with the situation etc.Clothes are minor things.Thanks.

Dear Ammie, It depends on a number of things. Which country do you live in? Do people wear traditional clothes to their jobs or Western clothes? What kind of a job is it? Obviously if you are applying for a McDonald's job you would dress differently than applying for a job as an executive assiatant or counsellor. A good idea is to be well prepared to answer all the questions that might be asked in the interview. Some one suggested to check out the employees as they go into the building to work. Good idea! Take your clue from that and dress up a little bit more. Now if you are going to be interviewed by a Western person here is what you need to consider: 1. Dress appropriately for the job 2. Is it summer or winter? A black formal blazer would look odd in the heat of summer. 3. Make sure your shoes are shiny like a mirror. As a lady do not wear open toed shoes to an interview. 4. Do not wear claw like fake nails to an interview. If the nails are fake that is o.k. but they should be a reasonable lenght and discreetly coloured. 5. Do not wear strong makeup or lipstick, or a diamond in your nose, unless it is there permanently. 6. Do not wear dangling earrings or bangles that make a noise when you speak. It will distract the interviewer. Remember first impressions are formed in a split second. So be self confident, take the person's hand if offered, shake firmly but not too long, smile and enter and exit confidently. Don't forget to thank the interviewer for their time. You may also think of the cultural customs that are important in your country.

Hi ammie07! I do think that it would depend on what position you are applying for. If you are applying for a full time job on a professional level, you should really dress up appropriately to make not just a good impression but a great one as well. Business suits are appropriate for this kind of interview. The candidate dressed in a suit, with a coordinated long sleeve shirt or blouse, conservative shoes, a professional hairstyle, and limited jewelry and perfume, will make the best impression. But of course, how you carry yourself and how you answer on the questions being asked also is very important but that's another topic. haha.. And when you're being interviewed for a non-professional level position (in a store or restaurant, for example) business casual attire is usually appropriate. It is always important to be neat, tidy, and well-groomed and to present a positive image to the employer. here's the link where I got this advice from if you want to read more: http://jobsearch.about.com/od/interviewsnetworking/tp/interviewattire.htm Take care and good luck dear! lovelots..faith

Hey ammie! When you go to an interview you have to dress in the best way that you can for a "professional look". I think that wearing a suit or slacks and a blazer or skirt and a blazer are fine as long as they look neat and are properly fitting. It is difficult to say exactly what is correct to wear to an interview. You need to look as presentable as you possible can because as you know you are "selling the whole package"! The first thing the interviewer will see is how well put together you are so making a good first impression is important.

I have always been told you wear what the job is. For instance you interview for a place that has a dress code, well you wear what you have that is closest to that dress code. It is a good impression.

I try to check out the workers on a day before the interview, then dress similar to them. My own personal style is jeans and t-shirts, so that won't work!
