Are you shopping in Thrift shops to beat the recession?

I've always found charity shops/thrift shops a great place to buy books, craft materials, household goods and sometimes clothes, and make my money go as far as possible. I wondered if many people who don't usually shop in these bargain used goods shops were now using them more as money is so tight at the moment.

i have shopped at thrift stores long before thrift store shopping became cool/popular. i have shopped at stores like goodwill and the sally ann for as long as i can remember. it was just a way to buy clothes and whatnot cheaply. we bought our first kitchen set that way.

I just went into the kitchen and realised almost every piece of crockery or pan that we own came from charity shops. Wonderful places!

I'm shopping less than ever these days. I have been shopping at thrift shops for as long as I can remember. I guess it is just because I was raised up that way. But nowadays, I really try not to go to the store unless I absolutely need something. And when I do go shopping, I try to take a list and get in and out of there. If at all possible, I don't buy anything unless it is on the list. The less I buy, the more money I have for a later date.

I know exactly what you mean, I hardly shop at all these days. I do find myself making more conscious efforts if I do need something though to check if I can get it secondhand before I try a highstreet shop though.

I've always shopped at thrift stores. Goodwill, second hand shops and garage sales. To be hones, I always have. Money is tight and it's going to get tighter. Lay offs are happening all around us and it scares me. The big What If. We just don't know My big concern here is now that, that law for lead testing was passed, I don't see these second hand stores or even Goodwill surviving because of the expense of the testing. With all these plans floating around to "help" the American people, I don't understand why this law was even passed. To me that will put a lot of small business owners out of work. Even out local craftshows have been put on hold. In all honesty, people used that a secondary income just to survive. Sorry, I bit off the subject, but yes I do shop at them and will continue to do so until they are driven out of business.
