Hello, Windows registry is a central database where pointers and important settings of all programs are stored. Pointers are used for accessing resources where settings are used for controlling the performance. Most of the programs take help of the registry system which exists only during the time when the Operating System is running. Why don't you read http://www.bukisa.com/articles/358172_understanding-windows-registry for more information. Windows registry is a labyrinth and there is so many things to explore. Thanks. God bless you.

so does this mean every application that has a password will register on windows registry like deepfreeze password, or other application that has a password before opening?

Windows stores lot of information in it. Instead of keeping a separate file for every different process, application, event, etc , it has made a single database called registry.

It is the configurations and settings of both hardwares and softwares on your PC. All softwares and hardwares you installed were registered in the Windows registry. Even the viruses and malwares that entered your PC will be registered. So it's good to know and study how it works so that you will be able to detect the viruses that infected your PC. Study Registry Editor. Happy myLotting!

That's right. The Windows registry is a directory which stores settings and options for Microsoft Windows operating systems. It contains information and settings for all the hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. The registry also provides a window into the operation of the kernel, exposing runtime information such as performance counters and currently active hardware. And as advised - if you're not familiar with it, do not simply make changes to it as careless registry editing can cause irreversible damage

Registry is the heart og windows operating system. like any software having its own programming code. just like that windows operating system having programming code and settings in registry. Experts recommend do not play with registry unless and untill you have enough knowledge about registry.
