While it is true that it is natural for us, human beings to attribute meanings to the things that surround us, we couldn't also deny the fact that we are at times used to looking at things as it is, thus we tend to objectify things. Everyday, we are confronted with signs and symbols which are embedded in our lives. These signs, though subliminal as they might seem, have their meanings that can be interpreted only if we look at them as part of a complex situation. As Roland Barthes puts in his article "Myth Today", semiology, as a science of signs, deals with values and is not contented with meeting the facts as it explores signs and symbols as tokens for something else.
