will many similiar programs hurt my pc

can someone tell me if i install multple programs that do the same thing will it hurt my pc i've heard that installin two antivirus make them cancel eaach otheer. but at one time i was running two antivirus together an i belive i still got service. right now i have multiple download torrent programs (bitcomet, flashgot, emule, etc)is having them putting my pc at risk leaving it more exposed

It is not a good practice to install more than one software in your PC that perform same functions.
If you however want to install and keep them at the same time, there isn't any harm to your PC except that they will consume lot of disk space and that you could have saved that space by keeping only one program that does your job
As for having many antivirus programs, there is no harm but there is no need for that at all. Keep only one antivirus becasue these programs run on your PC in background - using RAM and other resources - causing your system to run slow

actually, these torrnet things are the not so good for the PC as it leaves alot of ports open. So my advice is keep as least as possible the use of these programs and use an effective anitvirus (ex.KIS, kAV, Norton is OK, Macafee is not bad)
