Were you a better time keeper before Mobile phones?

phone and clock - a mobile phone and a clock combo

Today i found myself running late again for a lunch appointment with a good friend. As i have a mobile phone I was able to give him a quick phone call and let him know I was going to be twenty minuets late (i know, it`s rude to be late - I had good reason- trust me - BLOODY CARS!!!). But i thought what if it had had been 10 years ago, I would have parked the car up and run to the restaurant so i was not late and so he knew he had not been stood up. I have found myself being late a lot over the past few years (not by a lot a few mins) but its nice to have the piece of mind to be able to contact someone to let them know i am going to be late. Or am i just getting lazy and lax with my time keeping? I don`t ever remember being late before I had a mobile phone. Can I blame my lateness on the improvement in technology or is it just me? Does anyone else have the same problem now compared to a few years ago?

I'm probably more time-aware now than I was before, but I don't think cell phones have really affected me too much. I always like to be early (or at least on time) and so I plan thinkgs out that way. If I expect the road conditions to be bad...I try to leave a little earlier so I do make it on time. A cell phone is nice to have just in case, though I haven't had to use mine for that yet...

Yeah i always used to set off early, but now i find myself setting off with just enough time to get to the place i am going. And im not sure if its because i have my cell phone as a backup in case anything goes wrong or if its because im just getting less worried about time and more lazy leaving the house. Think im gonna keep blaming my cell phone..lol

Oh totally! I love this thread! Mobile phones have led to a lot of unreliability and i think i am more unreliable as a result as its so easy to make an excuse - either to dib out of an event or to run late. In the olden days, people were always where they said they would be, made arrangements in advance and would make it to the meeting come hell or high water as you couldnt bear to think someone would be sat there alone and stranded. In the 90s I had no mobile and no landline yet i had a more active social life and always turned up to things. I dont know how i managed it!

My point exactly. It might seem silly to blame a mobile phone for my actions. But i used to run places not to be late. Now i stroll along casually. OOOh maybe i can blame my mobile phone for the few extra pounds weight I have put on by not rushing around anymore, what do you think? - its worth a try (if i were in the USA I could try taking the phone companies to court fo compensation lol.
