Solar and Wind Energy

Hello So we recently bought our first house and have been looking into solar and wind energy for a couple of reasons. Firsty it would eliminate the monthly hyro bill which not having an extra bill each month can help almost anyone i think. Secondly it is better for the environment. We have been thinking about it for a while even if we purchase them on a payment plan and just put a downpayment on them, we will still have the bill for a while, but then it will be gone and our value of our house will go up for resale. So what does everyone think of solor and wind energy, have you ever considered using it of do you have it, if anyone knows anything about this that might be able to offer some suggestions or anything i would be curious to know what everyone else thinks. Thanks

Going "Green" as they say, is a great idea. But one thing you should think about, if you live in the United States and in a residential zone of a city or town, is to make sure that your solar panels and your wind generators meet specifics of the codes and ordinances in your area. I'd hate for you to invest in something positive like this and some building inspector or city council shut you down. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the information, I actually live in canada, but we also have codes to meet so I should definetely get that checked out, because that would be horrible. Thank you though becuase i never thought of that before!

I would like to do the same thing. I am not sure how to go about getting this started but I would like to do it. I am thinking about heating with wood next year just to cut down on bills. Our heat bill is about $300 a month and I could sure save some money if I could heat with wood as there is plenty accessible to us. I am thinking that I would like to heat my floors too as I think that would help with the bills too.

I know what you mean, my parents have always heated with wood, and there is no heat like wood stove heat it warms you right to the bone, a tip though keep a couple cans of water on top of the wood stove to add moisture to the air because the woodstove dries the air out. We heat with electric and actually it is not costing as too much, however we would eventually like to sell our house and it running itself is a big selling point, not to mention saving money is always a good idea, and of course our environment we have kids growing up here and we have to start making changes i think. But like you I am not exaclty sure where to go or what i would need I am lost in this area even using the internet it's hard to understand something you really have no idea about. Well hopefully we will be able to do something about his lol and get outselves informed and then come back on here and share our learning and experience with others!
