I live in NYC and I'm contemplating Apex technical school which has courses for things like mechanic, plumber, electrician, refrigeration,a/c,appliance and so on. They can be done in as little as 7 months. I'm really interested in plumbing or refrigeration/appliance. I'm wondering if its worth it though and if theres money to be made. Right now I'm an EMT for a private company making $11.50 an hour which is a big joke considering the field i'm in and I paid $700 for that course. So I want to know ahead of time if the fields I mentioned above are worth it or not. Because I refuse to learn how to be a plumber if all I'm going to make starting out is $12 an hour, that's stupid.

Definitely. Skilled workers such as electricians earns more than those in the office. Just sign up for an apprenticeship program to be a licensed electricians.

I would talk to a plumber (Yellow pages?) and see what he thinks of the course before you spend a lot of money on it. He would also be able to let you know what you might expect to earn as a rookie with only 7 months theory and no experience. In the UK an apprentiship in those trades is 6 or 7 years before you are qualified.
