This is ridiculous and funny but it's true, for me yawning is contagious. Especially when some people gather in the same small room or in a car. This could be worst if we are in a boring situation, like while we have to wait for something or someone in our car. I often experience this "contagious" yawning while sitting in the car with my relatives or friends, when somebody start yawning, a few seconds after that other people start yawning too. It's just like a funny chain reaction ... LOL :)

It is contagious. I dont know why. But when someone starts to yawn and I see it, I start yawning. Even this discussion of yawning is making me yawn.

Hello lusirafa! It is somehow true. I heard that there is a psychological effect. My husband and I talked on the phone, it is 12 midnight there and 11 in the morning here. I heard him yawn on the phone and automatically I yawned too. We are both laughing and that we talked about it then.

I definitely think yawning is contagious. I always yawn whenever I see someone else yawn, or even sometimes when I just think about yawning, like when I read about it. In fact, when I read your post, I started to yawn!

Actually yawning *is* contageious. In a way. There was a research conducted last year in which the results showed that people who have higher pyschological power (or developed mental capabilities, much higher than avg humans) are strongly prone to yawn when some one else does, when compared to the avg ordinary level people. Does that make sense? Maybe not. But since it does have proof, maybe it is true. Happy mylotting.

Yes I have always observed that yawning is contagious! When my son yawns I do the same and vice versa. Even my husband tells me that I should not show to him my yawn because he will feel the same level of being sleepy.

i read about a study (down with monkeys?) that showed yawning was contagious, and the results were later duplicated in people. A weird topic to study. But supposedly they had somehow found out it was related to some method of survival in times of danger. I don't know how, but that's what I rememember. Probably read the study in Nature magazine (I read it in the college library all the time, back in the days before the internet was everywhere).

Same as you, I'm quite perplexes on how they related it with a method of survival I'll check about it Turtleguy
