Check Your Sense of Humor at the Door! (A Rant)

Political Correctness goes both ways and PC has gone too far. When we are all unable to laugh at ourselvesbecause it may offend someone else, PC has won. If we can't laugh at ourselves then we are just as bad as those we point the "thin skinned" finger at. I realize that one can't please everyone all the time, and I guess that's why PC is gaining such a foothold. So, what? We all walk around trying not to offend each other? Agreeing with everyone else, and forgetting that we have minds of our own, our own sense of humor, and our own way of seeing things? Somewhere there's a very fine line. Will we have to check with a "government entity" before we step out of our homes? Will my orange shirt become offensive to someone who hates the color orange? Will my hair color become offensive to someone else? Ever see the movie Equilibrium? Society is regulated to the point where it's hard to tell a male from a female. Clothes, style, even emotion are all regulated. Music, books and art are banned. People are no longer individuals, they all look and act alike and take injections to keep them all on the same emotional level. Their desks are all arranged alike their homes are without color or anything that might stimulate emotion. They are robots.........not people. Scarier yet, there is a police entity that enforces all of this! Is this where are we headed people? Is this what we really want to become? Stop being so thin skinned, otherwise there's very little hope for any of us! Comment if you like. There is no question to answer. Just blowing off some steam.

Try to understand where the other person is coming from and maybe it will be easier not to be so thin skinned. Doesn't mean you have to agree with them though.

Oh, dear, riya. I hate it when they do that! Can't a girl just be b1tchy just because, sometimes!? *L* Take a couple of deep breaths, close your eyes and surround yourself with white light. Breath, breath. Soak in the light, let it wash over you. Take another deep cleansing breath, let it out. Ok, open your eyes. Better now?*S*

See, this is why I live in the boonies with a town full of old folks. They spit at PC and slap each other silly over bad jokes aimed at everything under the sun, that would probably get them arrested in a big city! Our Canadian Federal Government which for centuries, has been one of the least intrusive when it came to Provincial Politics is now sticking it's nose into regional politics and 'breaking what ain't broke'. We are still pretty laid back up here and live and let live for the most part, but the influence of the U.S. on our Prime Minister is getting out of hand, and our own unique identity is becoming eroded in the name of "global community, conformity and don't rock the boat for fear of drowning"! It makes me sick. Ok, my rant over now. Thanks for letting me let of some of my own steam Bo.

AND, did you ever WONDER where Lucas got the name for his sound system???? I recognized it INSTANTLY, but I was probably the ONLY person in the theater, I had to explain it to my friends I went to Silverado with since that was the first movie I saw with the sound system

I agree! This PC bullsh!t has gotten way out of hand and is completely out of control! The intentions might have been good when it first started, but in the long run, it has only made things worse! It's almost like no one can say anything to anyone any more for fear of offending them. People need to get over themselves and stop finding/taking offense in everything all the time. I have not seen that movie, but I can see how things could be headed the way you describe. I hope things never get that bad. To hell with PC!

Great rant. I'm going to be myself even if I'm a little politically incorrect (and believe me I AM!). But I don't take offense to anything online. You never know who your talkin to and you probably won't see them anytime soon. What's the point? They want to feel better about themselves so they put others down (yah I know that's an old saying, so what?). Wow... it does feel good to rant a little!! :)

I agree with you completely. I know you are talking about this particularly but the one that really annoys me is the reference to the mail man. Now if you say that someone will correct you because men are not the only ones doing this job. But, oh well, we all know what we mean by the reference so why does it make a difference? I, for one, have no intention of changing the way I talk to please some special interest group. I will call things what they are and if that offends someone I just have one thing to say. If the show fits, wear it.

Political correctness destroys freedom. There should be no gaurantee that you won't be offended. PC is the enemy of free speech. Here's a great quote everyone should think about: "Political correctness is Marxism, with all that implies; loss of freedom of expression, inversion of the traditional social order, and, ultimately, a totalitarian state" (Free Congress Foundation - A US conservative think-tank)
