Education Means Learning Not Cramming

The Present Examination system is a strange phenomenon in India.Students at all levels are tested not in the knowledge they have acquired and how well they communicate it to the examiner in their own way..The Examination are meant to see how well a student has crammed and how efficiently does he reproduce it in the answer books in the examination hall. Teaching and learning is not dictating or cramming. It is rather a healthy process that requires comprehension - retention- Communication. All children have their own original way of doing things.Just touch it and it will come up making learning a fun and not a cumbersome task. http://rjeyaprakaash-skimmingandscanning.blogspot.com

I second that. As a teacher here in the U.S. I see it quite a bit. Trying to explain to them the difference between studying and homework seems like a huge task. I've taught study skills for a number of years for remedial students, but it just seems as if the lessons are never fully taken to heart. I sometimes wonder if our society is to blame, this entire "I want it my way, and I want it now" attitude.

I saw your reply and its really amazing and interesting, since a writer or a publisher can develop his knowledge or his way of writing only if there is any suggestion or criticism. So, i thank you for your comments. Iam also a teacher doing my Ph.d Research work on William Faulkner.

My hats off to you for doing it on Faulkner. I had a professor in my undergraduate that wrote his doctorial papers on Faulkner, while Faulkner was still alive! He was an amazing professor and the first one to turn my eyes around about him. Prior to that I hated Faulkner with a passion. Now,he's tolerable.

I totally agree, but with school it seems like it is all cramming. Here in the U.S., you have no idea how many students just cram and they do not actually learn what they are taught.
