Loans and Credit Cards

I'm 18 years old and I'm college. I see alot of girls and guys in college with the most stylish clothing on. Considering my financial situation, I can't do it. The state counts me as a dependent so I don't receive financial aid because of what my mother makes and I can't get any student loans. I want to apply for some loans or get a credit card, so I can buy some stylish clothes. Or do you guys have any other suggestions on how I could get money to buy cool things or at least decent looking things? Another thing is I am employed, but the credit card companies and loan companies are turning me down. Why is that?
