State Income tax question -- What if you've lived in multiple states?

I lived in Pennsylvania for a majority of the year. From January to August, and then moved to Virginia in September. Where do I file my state income taxes? Do I have to do it twice? Thanks for your help, I'm pretty ignorant on this subject.

In both states. There are often alternative forms available for that. You have to contact the Department of Revenue for both states to inquire about that and request one. Hopefully they have a website you can use. You will be assessed the Pennsylvania state tax for anything you earned during the time frame from January to August, and the Virginia state tax for anything you earned after that. Don't forget to claim moving expenses if this was a job related move.
