Ipod 2g jailbreak ?

Hey guys , I bought myself an ipod for christmas last year :D and I was just wondering if I should jailbreak it ? Loads of people i know say the ipod is useless without the jailbreak. What do you people feel about this ? What are the advantages to jailbreaking? What are the negative effects of doing so ? Thanks loads :)

Correct me if I'm wrong , but i do think it's possible . :) The firmware was released a month or two back ...
