abOut consumerism...help pls!

Can somebody explain to me or expand this quote about consumerism.. "Every society has mythology. In some societies, it's religion. Our religion is consumerism." Thanks in advance. Happy mylotting..

I agree. Imagine for a moment what your home would look like if we did not have our spending power and range of options. Imagine what your life would be like without all of this. How much time would we have to study say...religion? We are slaves to our religion, aka, consumerism.
